Bring shape and definition back into your face with a thread lift

You may have heard the term being used in the media – but do you know what a thread lift is, and what the procedure entails?

Here, we’ve put together a short introduction to this popular treatment and explored the exceptional results it produces for clients who want to banish aged, worn skin and revitalise their complexion.

First of all, what is a thread lift?

A thread lift is a non-surgical rejuvenating facial treatment that uses special threads to lift sagging skin, leading to a subtle but visible improvement to the treated area.

It’s a viable alternative to facelift surgery, and the perfect solution for clients who want to give their skin a much-needed boost but don’t necessarily want to go under the knife to achieve a fantastic new look.

How does it work?

During a thread lift procedure, temporary sutures are used to stitch up portions of the skin around the face and cheeks and pull it back slightly to achieve better definition.

Inserting these threads encourages a rush of healing collagen to the areas that have been treated – and it’s this collagen that combats the ageing process by reducing skin looseness and encouraging cell rejuvenation.

The body’s healing response will be activated for as long as the threads are in place, because your immune system will be working to expel the sutured areas.

What are the threads made of?

The threads used within the treatment have been specially created and are designed to be absorbed by your body. At Braintree Dental Studio, we use threads made from polydioxanone, a medical-grade material that has been widely used by clinicians for many years.

Where can they be inserted?

A thread lift can be used to treat a range of areas. Our clients typically ask our practitioners to address sagging cheeks, jowls and jawlines, and many will choose to undergo a thread lift to improve the look and feel of the skin in the neck and the lower eye area. Threads can also be used to effectively improve the appearance of the nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nose to the mouth).

What results can be achieved?

A thread lift will lift the skin by a few millimetres, resulting in a subtle yet tighter look for your skin that will still amaze your family and friends.

How long will the results last for?

Once the thread lift has been completed, you can expect your skin to look more vibrant and youthful for up to three years.

Are there any side effects?

Clients very rarely experience any side effects after their thread lift procedure. It’s such a straightforward and non-invasive procedure, after all. In rare cases, however, some patients have reported irritation and/or slight scarring to the skin. Your clinician will be able to discuss any potential side effects in more detail during your initial consultation.

Are there any benefits to choosing a thread lift over facial surgery?

Firstly, you don’t need to be put under general anaesthetic during a thread lift. Instead, your practitioner will use local anaesthetic to numb the areas they are treating.

You may experience a little redness and soreness straight after the procedure has taken place, but you will normally be able to go about your daily activities as soon as it’s finished – something that makes this treatment especially appealing to people who live busy lives and don’t want to spend days recovering from surgery.

Thread lifts are notoriously uncomplicated. There’s virtually no risk of scarring, bruising or bleeding, and in the rare instance that the sutures become visible under the skin, they can simply be trimmed or removed with minimal fuss.

And, because thread lifts are much easier to perform than surgery, they are a much more cost-effective alternative for budget-conscious clients!
